Publice schools throughout Miami-Dade County will be closed until further notice

Superintendent Alberto Carvalho made the announcement Sunday on Twitter.

Carvalho said all 42 school shelters have generators.

He said there are mechanics at each site to address any issues in case the generators fail. Two were reported to be without power.

Carvalho said further announcements about when schools will reopen will be made based on shelter closures, school site inspections and workforce readiness.
