Don Lemon Bursts Into Tears Discussing Chris Cuomo's Coronavirus Diagnosis

On Tuesday (March 31), CNN anchor Don Lemon got emotional while talking about his friend and fellow anchor Chris Cuomo, who announced earlier that day that he'd tested positive for COVID-19.

“I said I wasn’t going to do this,” he told colleague Bianna Golodryga on CNN Tonight with Don Lemon as he started to tear up.

“He’s probably at home laughing at me,” Don joked before explaining where his emotion was coming from. “Chris and I are really good friends, we live near each other. So, when I walk into work every day I have to walk by where Chris is, so I usually go to his office... we just 'Hello!' Anyway, he’s not here, and we have this great relationship.”

"That’s my guy,” he said earlier in the broadcast. “And so it’s been really tough. I’ve been distracted all night because I’ve been thinking about it. I was really worried about him.”

However, Don later added, “He’s going to be fine. We have been talking all day and we are texting and he’s like, ‘People are treating me like I’m dying, I’m not dying.'"

Hours prior, Chris shared his diagnosis on Twitter, writing, "In these difficult times that seem to get more difficult and complicated by the day, I just found out that I am positive for coronavirus. I have been exposed to people in recent days who have subsequently tested positive and I had fevers, chills and shortness of breath."

He continued, "I just hope I didn't give it to the kids and [my wife] Cristina. That would make me feel worse than this illness!"

The CNN anchor said he is "quarantined in my basement" and will "do my shows from here." Adding, "We will all beat this by being smart and tough and united!"
