Miami Permanent Tattoo Makeup Salon Starts Petition To Re-Open Doors

While dozens of business owners across South Florida rejoiced to re-open doors this week, small business owners and those left out of re-opening Phase 1 are struggling to keep afloat.

Permanent makeup salon, The Brow Effect in Miami, is among the many businesses excluded from Miami-Dade’s Phase 1 re-opening plan. Struggling to pay rent after being forced to temporarily close amid the pandemic, with no help from the government nor unemployment, owner, Lisandra Rodriguez, fears her salon may soon be permanently closed. Although grooming business were permitted to open, permanent makeup falls under tattooing.

“Unlike hair, skin and nail salons, we tattoo artists have to take courses on blood borne pathogens, we are inspected every year by the department of health, and we are required to follow very strict sanitation protocols,” Rodriguez explained.

“These protocols have been in place and we are not like other businesses who are just learning these things now. Our business is our livelihood, and the utmost safest place to service my clients. I’ve started a petition... I’m at my wits end," added Rodriguez.

According to Miami-Dade Mayor Giménez’s guide for residents and commercial establishments, also known as 'The New Normal,' the most populated cities among Miami-Dade Counties; Miami, Miami Gardens, Hialeah and Miami Beach have officially begun Phase 1 of re-opening.

Omitting Miami Gardens, retail stores in the four cities can now re-open at a fifty percent capacity and nail and hair salons, along with barbershops, re-opened Wednesday with restrictions. For grooming business, services should be by appointment only, employees must wear face masks and gloves at all times, and businesses may operate at a twenty-five percent capacity. Restaurants in all four cities will re-open at fifty percent on May 27th.
