Speeders in Flagler Beach offered free face masks instead of tickets.

For the rest of the month speeders in Flagler Beach will receive masks instead of expensive tickets when they're pulled over.

The "Masks for Motorists" initiative is a partnership between the the Flagler Beach Police Department and the Florida Department of Health- Flagler- and the brainchild of the police chief.

"The basis for this entire program is public safety," Chief Matt Doughney said. "Safety for motorists on our scenic highway and safety for our community during this time of uncertainty."

Through August 31st, when officers issue written warnings to motorists for going too fast on A1A, they'll offer drivers a five-pack of cloth face coverings for free.

“We’d like to thank FDOT and our local Health Department for their partnership, support and willingness to help make our community a safer place to live, work and visit.”

Officers will also educate motorists on the new speed limits now in place along A1A.
