Millions of rapid COVID tests now being distributed in Florida

As coronavirus cases increase in Florida, testing is vital in stopping the spread of COVID-19 and millions of rapid 15 minute test kits from Abbott Labs are being distributed in the Sunshine State.

"Florida will receive a total of 6.4 million of these tests," Health and Human Services Assistant Secretary of Health Admiral Brett Giroir said, "and as of today (Tuesday) over 2.28 million will have been received this week by the state of Florida."

"Now we're in a whole different place in the testing regime by having rapid point of care tests that are going to widely accessible and are being deployed right now in Florida."

And Admiral Giroir says the test isn't the ordeal many think it is.

"It is a swab but it's not the deep swab that is so uncomfortable. It is actually a very soft foam swab that goes into the tip of your nose."

The kits are being used first to test K-12 students and teachers, nursing home patients and staff, and first responders.
