A Florida teacher was arrested by cops after they found a missing teenager inside her home, according to WPLG.

The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office accused 31-year-old Kelly Joyce Simpson of illegally letting a student stay at her home in Punta Gorda. Reporters say she teaches at Charlotte High School.

The incident began when deputies got a call last week about a teen reportedly stealing $100 in Port Charlotte, prompting an investigation. His parents also reported him missing on August 12, according to a press release. While authorities were searching for the teen, a witness told them the child constantly spoke about Simpson and would bring her coffee.

Deputies dropped by Simpson's home on Tuesday (August 16) and asked the teacher to search her house for the missing teen. She refused to let them inside but eventually brought the teen out, reporters say.

The teen reportedly told deputies Simpson picked him up the night before and slept over at her house. When cops questioned the 31-year-old, she confessed to seeing social media posts about the missing teen but didn't tell anyone.

She was booked into the Charlotte County Jail and charged with interference with custody of a minor. Simpson bonded out on Wednesday (August 17).
