Miami Police Department To Buy Technology To Monitor Phones, Social Media


According to the Miami Herald, the Miami Police Department will soon be buying technology to trace and monitor phones and social media. Miami city commissioners voted unanimously to allocate $70,600 so the police department can purchase the spyware from Pen-Link, a Nebraska-based surveillance technology company.

But what are they monitoring?

The tech will allow police to determine in real time when someone has sent a message on social media and who they sent that message to, according to Miami Police Chief Jorge Colina.
