The cities of Miami and Fort Lauderdale are distributing sandbags for residents in need of them as Hurricane Ian inches closer to Florida. Governor DeSantis says Floridians should expect power outages, fuel disruptions, and even evacuations with Ian expected to become a major hurricane as it heads toward the state.

In Miami, the sandbag distribution will be held until 5 p.m. today at:

  • Grapeland Park, 1550 NW 37th Ave., Miami, FL 33125
  • Little Haiti Soccer Park, 6301 NE 2nd Ave., Miami, FL 33138
  • Douglas Park, 2755 SW 37 Ave., Miami, FL 33133

Fort Lauderdale residents can pick up sandbags until 2 p.m. at Mills Pond Park at 2201 NW 9th Ave. You will need proof of Fort Lauderdale residency and you will also need to bring your own shovels.
