Hurricane Andrew swept the nation under storm exactly thirty years ago today. The hurricane directly caused 26 deaths in the U.S. and indirectly caused 39 more, with $27.3 billion in total damages.

Although the tragic event caused devastation to many places, and took many years for places to build back from the damage, some good did come out of it that otherwise would not have happened. Weather forecasts were improved, with things like a forecast cone was developed to forecast weather up to five days in advance.

Hopefully we will not have to live through another hurricane like Andrew.

Be safe and always prepare yourself for a potential hurricane with these tips.
