Hurricane Ian Has Made Landfall In Florida

It's official - Hurricane Ian has made landfall in Florida. Ian came ashore near Cayo Costa, Florida, with winds of 150 mph. The center of Ian is forecast to move over Central Florida Wednesday night and Thursday morning and emerge over the western Atlantic by late Thursday.

Nearly 7,500 people are taking shelter in evacuation centers in Hillsborough county. Ian is set to cause catastrophic damage to central Florida. Governor Ron DeSantis said this afternoon that more than 200,000 people had already lost power. Currently, Ian is at a category 4 hurricane. Ian needs to sustain winds of 157mph to become a category 5 hurricane.
