Megan Thee Stallion, Post Malone, Coldplay, Drake, Camila Cabello, and Morgan Wallen have joined over 100 artists, record labels, music industry figures and streaming services to call for restrictions on the use of rap lyrics as criminal evidence in US court.
"Art on Trial" Protect Black Art" is an open letter by Warner published to the New York Times and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution today, calling prosecutors to end the “racially targeted” practice of using rap evidence in trials, and for legislators at the state and federal level to limit how such work can be used against defendants.
This comes as Young Thug was had lyrics that posed as an indictment for suspicion of gang involvement and other offences, as they allegedly constituted “an overt act in furtherance of this conspiracy." Jay-Z, Kelly Rowland and Meek Mill also argued for the prevention of rap lyrics being used as evidence in criminal trials in January.
