After mentioning that The Weeknd would kill his persona in exchange for his birth name, fans got skeptical about how this would play out. It seems like Abel Tesfaye, the birth name of the pop singer, had no hesitation in starting with the name change. If you go to his socials, you'll notice his name has changed to his real name.
The pseudonym was used for 12 years and was created after he dropped out of school, left with his mattress one weekend, and never returned home. The reason it's missing an "e" was to avoid copyright to a Canadian band that had already coined the name "The Weekend."
There will be one more album under "The Weeknd," after that, it'll be a new era for Abel.
