According to the Federal Trade Commission, Twitter will need to pay $150 million after they allegedly violated a previous order regarding unauthorized access of user's personal information.
The Justice Department filed a complaint alleging that Twitter encouraged users to submit an email address or phone number to use the multi-factor authentication to help secure their account better. However, allegedly Twitter sold that information to advertisers in order to have target ads. The data collecting had lasted from May 2013 to September 2019 and affected over 140 million users.
