A Lake Worth Beach vape shop owner who shot a burglary suspect last week is charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and discharging a firearm in public.

Deputies say the juvenile suspect was running away from Lighthouse Vape & Smoke Shop after breaking into the store by throwing a rock at a window, when Leonard Jones fired his gun in an alley.

The 39-year old man told officials that he was responding to the store alarm. He called 911 to report the burglary, but didn't mention shooting the alleged burglar.

According to the arrest report, Jones holds a concealed carry permit, but his charges are because he shot the suspect, who never presented any type of deadly force or threat towards Jones.

An attorney for the store owner says total damage and loss of inventory amounts to about $1,800.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office had said that the juvenile suspect would also be charged with the burglary. He also called 911 to report being shot and was hospitalized for non-life threatening injuries.
