Tropics Heat Up

Things are starting to get active in the tropics. Forecasters are watching a tropical wave over the central Atlantic that has a good chance of developing into a tropical depression during the early to middle part of next week.

National Hurricane Center says the system should approach the Windward Islands by Tuesday and move into the southwestern Caribbean by Wednesday. Its chances for formation increase to 60% over the next five days. If it does strengthen into a tropical storm, it would be named Bonnie.

While it's still to early to say for certain, the track does not appear to bring it near Florida.

At the same time, an area of low pressure in the northern Gulf could form early next week as it drifts to the northwest. This system has a 20% chance of development.
