The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down in a Delray Beach area senior community.

Palm Beach County Mayor Robert Weinroth toured the damage at Kings Point in Delray Beach, which included cars being toppled, roofs blown off and trees blown into buildings.

"The damage was pretty intense. It's surprising to see what a tornado can do on one block and then the next block over it's absolutely pristine and nobody really knows that there's been any change."

Weinroth, who was joined on the tour with other county leaders and some state senators, says they are connecting those displaced with nonprofits.

"Making sure the residents who may have to be out of their homes for a few days or weeks, that they have the services they need...that if they need to have a new residence temporarily, we're working with them."

He says they're connecting the residents with non-profits.

A number of residents who were evacuated have been relocated to another retirement community, Fountainview in West Palm Beach. They are receiving full accommodations while staying in guest suites.

Meanwhile, the mayor says the long term prognosis regarding the buildings is not known.

"We're working to determine whether they need to be condemned or whether they can be repaired."

Weinroth says they will get all of the help they need.
