After years of controversy Dixie-Highway is officially getting a name change to Harriet Tubman Highway!
Mayor Carlos Gimenez made it IG officially, and also legit legit on official documents too, that Dixie-Highway will now be renamed to Harriet Tubman Highway.
Commissioners of Miami-Dade County have voted to greenlight a resolution to rename the highway after legendary abolitionist Harriet Tubman after years of the highway name being associated with slavery.
The Mayor, on instagram, wrote " The historic resolution aims to disassociate this roadway with slavery. It's relevance is highlighted as #OurCounty currently celebrates Black History Month"
He also goes on to say he hopes that Florida Legislature will rename sections outside of Miami-Dade as well.
