Idina Menzel and Billy Porter are both in negotiations for lead roles in Sony’s musical Cinderella staring Camila Cabello. Menzel is in talks to play the role of evil stepmother Evelyn, and Porter is rumored to be in negotiations for the role as fairy godmother.
You may know Menzel as the voice of Elsa in Disney’s Frozen, and singer of the Oscar and Grammy winning song “Let It Go” from the children’s movie soundtrack. Although, Menzel is no rookie to Broadway, the evil stepmother front-runner began her career in the 90’s Broadway show Rent. Porter, is most recognized for his recent work in FX’s “Pose” and will also appear in the comedy “Like a Boss” amongst Tiffany Haddish, Salma Hayek and Rose Byrne.
Cabello was announced to be a part of the project in April as Cinderella, and voice on the soundtrack for the new tuneful version of the fairytale classic. Sony’s reimagined Cinderella will be a music-oriented take of the traditional tale of an orphaned girl with an evil stepmother.
The musical spectacular is projected to open in February 2021.
