Your abuelitas and cooks in the house may have taught you otherwise, but according to health officials they’re warning you are not supposed to wash your turkey before cooking it!
If you’re gearing up for turkey day, contrary to popular believe, a recent study found washing raw poultry will contaminate your sink. This year, while you’re prepping the poultry, nutritionists suggested in the new food safety study, “You can’t wash off bacteria with water, and rinsing out the turkey risks splashing its juices all over the sink”.
So, what exactly do experts recommend? When opening the plastic wrap just drain any liquid into the sink before throwing the packaging out. Then, pat the turkey dry with paper towels. After, make sure to wash your hands and utensils thoroughly with hot water and soap.
