According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, red, itchy eyes may also be a symptom of the coronavirus infection.
The academy is warning ophthalmologists to be alert of patients with combined pink eye, and “fever and respiratory symptoms, including cough and shortness of breath.”
The symptoms of COVID-19, also known as coronavirus (along with diarrhea), can be transmitted by contact with an infected person or touching objects touched by a patient who has tested positive.
The first link from coronavirus to pink eye was discovered in a rare occurrence early March. Now, the academy is alerting ophthalmologists they may be the first doctor to spot coronavirus symptoms in unaware patients.
