There's A Petition To Change The Name of Broward County

Wow! Broward County could be getting a name change. That's what a petition from Kyle Hill is attempting to do. The petition has reached almost 2,000 signatures and they are hoping for 500 more.

Quick history lesson, Broward County is named after former Florida Governor Napoleon Bonaparte Broward, who was a racist. His statue at the Broward County Courthouse was removed in 2017 because of his vile ways.

Local 10 spoke to Mayor Dale Holness who said, "changing Broward County‘s name to Fort Lauderdale County has been considered previously for marketing purposes."He also said the nationwide push to stop commemorating historic figures who advocated slavery could be a better motive.

Do you think the name change will happen? I think it's a great idea and I like the idea of Fort Lauderdale County.
