American Airlines will lay off 2,000 people in South Florida after failing to receive COVID aid. The airline pledged to drastically cut payroll after Congress failed to agree on a new round of financial assistance for the airline industry.
There will be a mass lay off of 19,000 people across the country. Of the 2,000 being laid off here in South Florida, most of the impacted employees work at Miami International Airport. American also serves Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Palm Beach International Airport. Flight attendants will bear the heaviest cuts, with 8,100 losing their jobs.
