The Miami- Dade County Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan has announced a street renaming event in honor of Trayvon Martin. It will be held today at 10 a.m. at 1655 NE 205th Terrace. The area from Northeast 16th Ave from Ives Dairy Road to NE 209th Street will be known as Trayvon Martin Ave.
Trayvon Martin was a teen who lost his life after he was shot by a neighborhood watch back in 2012 on a trip to visit his father. He was unarmed and walking back from a convenience store with candy when he was confronted and shot once by George Zimmerman.
Commissioner Jordan, who sponsored the street renaming, said the teen had mechanical skills, knowing how to build and fix dirt bikes and wanted to go to college.
