With a rise in COVID cases, most things have been canceling left and right, but the 2020 Brazilian Festival is still happening. Just not in Pompano Beach like it has been for the last 8 years. This year it will take place in downtown Ft. Lauderdale Dec 12-13.
Despite the increase in cases, organizers say canceling the Brazilian Festival was not an option because they say, “The Brazilian community is hurting more than you can possibly imagine...You have to understand, a lot of people are lonely here, depressed. They don’t have family here. So we need to provide some kind of hope for brighter days ahead.”
This year's event will take place in Fort Lauderdale’s Huizenga Plaza with city-approved safety protocols in place. Masks are mandatory, there will be temperature checks and reduced capacity of about 1,500 people per day. Tickets are $10 and you can get them here: BrazilianFestival.org.
