Over 80 dogs and cats flew into Fort Lauderdale- Hollywood International Airport over the holiday weekend from Louisiana, in search of a fur-ever home! The animals needed to be transported here because their shelters in Louisiana were destroyed due to Hurricane Ida. South Florida has been taking pets in from Louisiana since last week with the help of the Humane Society of Broward County and Greater Good Charities.
Some animals had been evacuated before the storm hit, but those who arrived over the weekend had to ride out the storm in their shelters. Most of which are without running water and electricity. More than 300 pets have thankfully been evacuated from Louisiana.
The Humane Society of Broward County say the 80 dogs and cats will be given some time to rest and should be available to adopt in the next couple days.
