The votes are in- Miami Beach residents have voted in favor of rolling back last call from 5 a.m. to 2 a.m. The vote on the last call issue showed around 56% are in favor of the city cutting off alcohol sales at 2 a.m.
A lot of restaurant and bar owners are upset as they were hoping for a different outcome. They had been rallying to vote against the rollback out of fear it would cause more financial set backs. They were just starting to recover from the shutdown last year.
Those in favor of the rollback were concerned about the increase in crime in South Beach. The Entertainment District has been growing more violent and chaotic in the last several years and they believe it could be due to some bars and restaurants serving alcohol into the wee hours of the morning. Mayor Dan Gelber who backed the move has also been re-elected and hopes to turn the entertainment district into an arts and cultural center.
