This probably wasn't on your 2022 bingo card - A Hialeah woman is suing Kraft Heinz for $5 million over Mac and Cheese.

Amanda Ramirez filed a class action lawsuit in Miami federal court earlier this month, and is seeking damages as she sees the product advertisement as “false and misleading”.

She's claiming that Velveeta's "Shells and Cheese" cups are falsely advertising that they're ready in 3 and 1/2 minutes, as that's how long it takes for them to cook in the microwave - not how long the total cook time takes. The woman said that it's misleading, as you still have to account for the time in additional preparation spent opening the product, put water in it to cook, and let it sit to thicken once cooked.

Now, her lawsuit is suggesting that the packaging should instead say the product takes “3 1/2 minutes to cook in the microwave.”

This comes as she had purchased the mac and cheese at a Hialeah Publix sometime between October and November of this year. Ramirez was trying to find grocery items to stretch her grocery budget as much as possible. Court documents show that she was disappointed in the purchase, as she's paying a “premium price, approximately no less than $10.99."
