The iconic Polynesian restaurant Mai-Kai is reopening its doors soon after a $8 million renovation!
Mai-Kai opened its doors on December 28, 1956, at 3599 North Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale. Unfortunately, in October of 2020, a roof collapse lead to the closure of the restaurant.
The current goal for the reopening of the restaurant is in June, as it would coincide with the return of the Hukilau, the annual event that draws thousands to Fort Lauderdale for a four-day, Tiki-themed celebration. Fun!
The eight themed rooms that the restaurant has like the nautical-themed bar to the dining areas named for South Seas islands, have remained preserved, aside from a few renovations. They're also keeping the original menu and cocktails, but with a modern twist.
With the re-opening of the restaurant, comes the return of Mai-Kais meals paired with a dance show, which just happens to bethe longest-running Polynesian dance show in the continental United States. They'll be doing this twice a night, but you have to reserve a spot to be able to experience it!
Excited to try this! Are they taking bookings in advance? 😂
