People flocked to the beach in Jacksonville Friday, immediately following Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry’s announcement that Duval County’s beaches would open again. They rolled out new restrictions and hours the beach can be used for swimming, jogging, surfing, biking and walking pets. Sunbathing, sitting on blankets or towels and gatherings of more than 10 people are still prohibited.
Visitors are welcome at the Jacksonville beach from 6am to 11am and from 5pm to 8pm, however Social Distancing orders remain in place.
Photos of the crowded beach have popped up all over this weekend – with many people criticizing the decision, noting that earlier this week Florida surpassed 25,000 cases of COVID-19.
