It's cool when unlikely celebrity colleagues praise each other publicly.
Adam Sandler, who stars in the upcoming Safdie Brothers-directed and Martin Scorsese-executive produced film Uncut Gems, had some very nice things to say about The Weeknd in his latest interview with Vulture:
“First of all, I love that kid. He’s such a nice guy. He’s so deep. He’s so into the Safdies’ other work. He was excited about doing a movie with them,” he said. “We got to know each other and got closer. He was a gentleman [on set]. I’m older than him. I don’t think he really wanted to fight as hard as he could! But then when we got cooking, he was a strong guy, a tough guy. He did a great job. He was really bold to play that part, to play himself, and not be such a lovable guy in the movie. That new album, my God! Did you hear that yet? It’s good.”
First of all, how did Sandler get a hold of the album before we did? Well, we'll get to that in a minute, but either way... the "Starboy" singer had his own praises to give his co-star:
The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, is not only gearing up for his first major motion picture debut (as himself) with Uncut Gems, but also an album that, so far, he's released two singles for. It's good to hear something from Abel after that one and a half year hiatus... he even released merch for the singles, Metro Boomin-produced "Heartless" (which will most likely make the Day 1 fans happy) and the more radio-ready pop track "Blinding Lights."
Uncut Gems, which is based on Joshua and Benjamin Safdie's father who used to work in New York's diamond district when they were younger, really stirred up some buzz since its debut at the Telluride Film Festival with even some Oscar nomination talk about Adam Sandler's performance. When asked in an interview about the possible coveted award nomination, the Big Daddy actor said this:
“If I don’t get it, I’m going to f—ing come back and do one again that is so bad on purpose just to make you all pay. That’s how I get them.”
The movie is set for nationwide release December 25th and the trailer is out now, featuring music from Travis Scott.
