Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is looking to adopt a similar type of highway checkpoint along I-95 to deter travelers from New York the way there are Florida Highway Patrols and sheriff's deputies along I-10 screening for travelers from Louisiana, a hot spot for positive coronavirus cases nowadays.
According to our TV partner NBC6, the governor wants travelers from other states coming into Florida to self-quarantine for 14 days just the same way they're making airport foreigners take precautions:
“Whatever works I think we need to do. The more people are being shuttled around the country, I just think it makes it more difficult. I think it would make it a lot easier if we didn’t have folks coming in from hot zones.” "You have Floridians across the state who are sacrificing tremendously. The schools are closed. You can't go to a restaurant. Look at South Florida. It's basically entirely locked down. How is it fair to them to just be air dropping in people from the hot zones bringing infections with them and seeding the communities with new infections that they are trying to stamp out."
Currently, the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state is over 4,000 with 56 deaths so far.
