"Twerking," brought to you by... LIZZO!
In an effort to "prevent the erasure of Blackness from twerking," the Grammy-award winning recording artist held a TED Talk on the booty-shaking genre of dance. Twerking derives from the West African dance of 'Mapouka'.
She went on to say: “Everything that Black people create -- from fashion to music to the way we talk -- is co-opted and appropriated by pop culture.”
The specific example she was referring to was Miley Cyrus's booty-ful performance alongside Robin Thicke that one VMAs.......
