A sixth case of measles has been confirmed after an outbreak was reported at a Broward Elementary School.
Over the last few days, we've been getting updates on an outbreak of measles at Manatee Bay Elementary School in Weston.
The Superintendent reported that nearly 20% of students missed school after the long weekend which many speculate is due to the recent outbreak..
Broward schools reassured parents that the county is doing everything in its power to sanitize the school following the outbreak and that students who are vaccinated are safe.
Although students are required to have two doses of measles vaccinations to attend school many parents have opted out over the last few years citing "religious" or "medical" exemptions.
As of Tuesday evening, the Surgeon General of Florida released this statement differing to parents to make decisions about attendance as they continue to investigate.
