Miami is growing so much that we are now getting a new area code. That's right, our 305 and 786 area codes just got a new sibling. Welcome... Mr. 645. I know, it's not Mr. 305 and it doesn't have the same ring to it but the new area will cover Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys.
Don’t panic!! If you're an OG 305 you won't have to change your number but according to the Florida Public Service Commission in some cases, you might need to get a 645 if you move your service. You could get lucky and get a 305 or 786 area code, depending on availability.
The 645 area code will be given to people who want or need a new phone number for their phone, tablet, smartwatch, etc. The commission says the new area code will be activated when numbers run out, possibly in 2024.
