Looks like we might have a tunnel coming to Fort Lauderdale.
Earlier this week Fort Lauderdale City Commission agreed to pay Elon Musk’s Boring Company $375,000 to investigate the true cost of designing and building the underground tunnel system. If all goes well with the interim agreement, the project known as the Las Olas Loop will have a final contract in the coming months.
It is important to note that in June of 2021 the company, owned by Elon Musk, submitted a proposal with a detailed plan that explains what a "loop" system is and how it's different from traditional underground transit. Plus, the document also breaks downs why the choice to place the loop within Los Olas Boulevard makes a big difference and benefits Fort Lauderdale's residents and finances.
The Boring Company would also operate and maintain the tunnels. Read more about the Los Olas Loop and The Boring Company's proposal here.
