After a pause from accepting applications, Broward County is once again allowing residents to apply to the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP). Earlier this year the county temporarily closed the portal to ensure there was no backlog.

To check if you qualify you must visit Broward.org/RentAssistance or call 954-831-3727. Spokeswoman Natalie Beasley says qualified applicants can get up to eighteen months of rent and utility help. This help is coming from a 9-million-dollar CARES Act pot. The main goal for the county is to stop evictions before people are left homeless. According to their website, either tenant or landlord can apply for ERAP; however, they recommend that both parties speak and agree that they are both willing and able to proceed. It is also important to note that each must complete the online application.

So far, about six-thousand households have received help.
