Brush Fire Snarls Traffic, Causes Evacuations in North Port

NORTH PORT -- A brush fire spread by high winds forced officials to close access to a major highway Friday afternoon.

A North Port city spokesman says embers blown from a small fire triggered three other fires, burning about 50 acres according to earliest estimates.

Authorities briefly evacuated a school, a daycare and a gymnastics center and shut down exits from I-75 to Toledo Blade Boulevard. No injuries or damage to buildings reported.
