Hialeah, FL - The Hialeah Housing Authority is opening its Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list, giving eligible residents a limited opportunity to apply for future rental assistance.
Online pre applications will be accepted beginning July 22nd and will remain open through July 28th.
Housing officials said applications must be submitted online during the enrollment period, and only one application will be accepted per household.
Duplicate applications will be disqualified.
The Housing Choice Voucher Program helps qualifying low income households pay a portion of their monthly rent through federally funded rental assistance.
Eligibility is based on household income, family size and other program requirements established by the housing authority.
According to officials, income limits vary depending on the number of people in the household.
A single applicant must have an annual income of no more than $47,700 to qualify, while the maximum income for a household of eight is $89,900.
Applicants should be prepared to provide information for every member of the household, including names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers and other identifying information needed to complete the application process.
Because the housing authority expects more applications than available spaces on the waiting list, eligible applicants will be selected through a lottery system rather than on a first come, first served basis.
Preference may be given to certain applicants, including elderly individuals, people with disabilities, households experiencing homelessness and families displaced by federally declared natural disasters.
Placement on the waiting list does not guarantee immediate housing assistance. Instead, applicants selected through the lottery will remain on the waiting list until Housing Choice Vouchers become available through the Hialeah Housing Authority.
