Florida is now monitoring students’ social media behavior using a new "safety portal"
The Florida Schools Safety Portal (FSSP) was unveiled by the state Department of Education and will now be used this school year. This new tool is designed to help school districts identify, assess and provide intervention services to students whose behavior may pose a threat to themselves or other students.
The tool will gather information from a variety of sources including social media and law enforcement records.
According to a press release about the FSSP it will not be used to label students as potential threats, “but rather it is a tool to evaluate the seriousness of reported or identified threats and to assist in getting professional help when necessary.”
