It looks like Montana is about to be the first state to pass a statewide ban on TikTok.
Colleges/Universities in South Florida have already banned the use of TikTok on school devices this past month. FAU, FSU, PBSC, UF, and FIU are a handful of schools that are being cautious of data breaches. The app has been banned from their Wi-Fi and school devices. Critics say they want to prevent information from being breached.
Montana's proposal would lead to the ban of any downloads of the app within the state. Individual users will not face penalties, but for TikTok and app stores this could lead to a $10,000 fine per violation.
The bill has support by the state's Republican- controlled legislature. By the end of the week there should be a full vote.
If it passes this would make Montana, the very first state to have a statewide ban on the social media app.
